Drew is a passionate educator, climber, traveler, and outdoor enthusiast. Originally planning on a career in music, Drew attended Indiana University, receiving bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Jazz Performance. She taught middle school and elementary school band in Santa Fe, NM for 3 years before leaving her position to live in Guangzhou, China and teach English with Disney English for one year.
This was the start of numerous adventures, travels, and job opportunities. Drew explored Asia, climbing in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and China; she traveled to Israel, Mexico, and Guatemala. Wherever she traveled, climbing, exploring nature, and getting to know the people and the culture were paramount. Additionally, she worked as a travel guide with Backroads, Active Travel, worked for the fitness company, Redefining Strength, worked with NOLS, and then started her master’s degree in Outdoor Education Leadership with Prescott College.
Throughout the travels, the different jobs, and the adventures outdoors, climbing continues to be the passion that ties everything together. It prompted the travels; it illustrated the commonalities amongst cultures and people. And what Drew learned from it all – personal strength, problem solving, acceptance, humility, and so much more – prompted her desire to move back into education from an outdoor vantage point.
All of this brought Drew to The Climbing Academy. Their unique model of academics, sport, and travel epitomizes what she experienced through her own adventures, explorations, and climbing. Drew is excited to step into the role of Head of School with TCA., learning and growing with the students.
