Originally from Chamblee, GA, Garrett spent his childhood focused on tennis, hunting, and climbing until he ultimately decided to dedicate himself exclusively to climbing at age 17. He studied cultural anthropology at Emory University, taught English in Beijing, and received his Master’s degree in Religious Studies from Hebrew University.
Among a diverse list of interests, Garrett finds most of his attention constantly returning to climbing and learning. Climbing is a powerful director for Garrett’s curiosity that he uses as an aid in understanding what it means to learn, how education happens, and where we find growth. Couple these interests with a desire to share life with others, and it is safe to say that Garrett is an excited member of the WCA team. Teaching Algebra 2 and AP Human Geography, Garrett brings with him an excited curiosity, a thirst for adventure, and a kindred spirit with all those at the crag.
