Marcos, a native of New York City, comes to TCA with a passion for rock climbing and a background in the earth sciences.
Marcos developed a passion for rock climbing during his time in middle school while exploring upstate New York. Then throughout college and graduate school, he dedicated himself to honing his skills in this exhilarating sport. Marcos returned to the place he first learned to climb, leading groups of students on day trips to the crag while working at a summer camp in upstate New York. He is currently utilizing his skills and passion as a mentor with Access Wild Places, an initiative created by a former student of his, which aims to provide BIPOC students from NYC with opportunities to experience the great outdoors.
Beyond climbing, Marcos holds a love of the sciences. He attended Northland College in Northern Wisconsin, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geology. During his field camp, he embarked on an expedition throughout Wyoming, immersing himself in the intricacies of rock identification beyond the confines of a laboratory. Marcos’ fascination with rocks extends beyond climbing them; he is continually driven to unravel their mysteries and deepen his understanding.
Marcos is finishing his Master’s in Teaching at the Richard Gilder Graduate School, housed within the American Museum of Natural History. Although Marcos’ background primarily focused on science education, he is eager and excited to embrace the opportunity to teach Pre-calculus and Media Productions in the upcoming year.
Marcos’s diverse experiences and passions fuel his commitment to enriching his students’ educational experiences in various disciplines.
