Job Description: Teacher / Coach Position
Position Summary:
Travel the world while working as an educator and coach at the only accredited high school for competitive youth kayakers, kiteboarders, climbers, and mountain bikers. World Class Academy is dedicated to providing a rigorous, individualized academic program paired with an athletic training program specially designed for the world’s top young athletes. We are committed to providing an experience that will produce globally conscious young adults who understand the importance of individual action and feel empowered to make a positive impact.
Most faculty members take on many roles simultaneously, including teacher, coach, and mentor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in the subject area you are applying to teach or in a transferable subject
- Experience working with youth inside or outside the classroom
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced to professional kayaking/kiteboarding/climbing/mountain biking skills
- A desire to share athletic knowledge and experience
- Experience coaching high-level athletics
- Passionate about WCA's mission and the development of our students
- Excited to travel with students and support their academic, athletic, and character goals
- Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid certified
Roles & Responsibilities:

During the academic year, teachers work on location 6-7 weeks per quarter (four quarters per year, September - May).*Between each quarter, there are academic breaks that range from 2 - 4 weeks & faculty are supplied the option of one-way airfare (destination must be approved by admin) at the end of each break.

Teach 2-3 classes per semester. Core classes meet for 240 minutes per week, though the days & durations may vary depending on the athletic schedule. For example, most classes meet for 80 minutes 3x a week, though some classes might meet twice a week for 2 hours.

Lesson plan & maintain an updated online gradebook.

Attend morning workout & Study Hall.

Faculty live in shared accommodations and are expected to supervise students and facilitate evening responsibilities as outlined by their Program Director.

Uphold all school policies including staying back with students during the athletic sessions to offer additional tutoring and academic support on a case-by-case basis.

At the end of each quarter, contribute written summaries on students’ performance in their Academic Reports.

Mentor 2-3 students, and supply a weekly written update to the student’s family.

Lead cook crew with your group of mentees on a rotational basis.

Under direction of the Head Coach, help facilitate, supervise and offer guidance to students to help implement daily athletic plans.

Enforce safety policies and gear requirements for students and faculty when participating in athletics.

Participate in weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly opportunities meetings.

Attend scheduled professional development during academic breaks.
